Work started on another French Line Battalion!

A couple of weeks ago I updated my blog trying to motivate myself to paint more.
Unfortunately it didnt work as I wanted... The only thing I managed to paint ever since, was another company of Prussians for my West Prussian Musketeers regiment so now I have two companies done. Two more to go...

On the other hand however I finally decided to start working on some more French line infantry. I went again for metal Perry figures and I chose the ones standing at attention. For some reason I think these minis really look cool.
Now I must find the discipline to paint them all...

Once I paint these guys I will allow myself the luxury of buying some more stuff (i.e. get my greedy hands on some Perry Russians)

Lets hope I paint them soon....

An update at last!

Well, first of all a Happy New Year to all of my fellow hobbyists out there! May 2012 bring you happiness, health and joy and may you conquer the lead mountain ! I am sure that the last part is near impossible for most of us especially if we consider the speed that many companies release new figures ( I am thinking of the imminent release of the Russian Perry's).

The past few months have been filled with big changes in my life. First of all I decided to leave Japan and to move back to my native Greece. Despite the crisis home is always home and being back to Athens after three and a half years feels quite well.

Hobby wise unfortunately I am no longer able to enjoy gaming with the West Tokyo Wargamers. On the other hand however, I have finally the available space to showcase my Napoleonic collection!

On the painting table unfortunately I have lost my edge. These prussians and nassauers have been sitting on my desk for more than 3 months and from the speed I have been painting lately I cant see those two battalions getting completed anytime soon...

Lets hope 2012 will give me the discipline to paint these two battalions ....

13th Legere - 1st Battalion

After many months in a semi-complete stage I finally finished the 1st Battalion of the 13th Legere. Hopefully in the next months I should be able to paint the 3rd Battalion as well and complete the 13th Legere...

Figures as always are Perry and the Flag is GMB.
Hope you like them!

Update time!

After a long relaxing summer in Greece I am back in Tokyo and while waiting for typhoon no12 to pass (thank God its not passing through Tokyo) I finally got time to finish my first Prussian unit!

I present to you the West Prussian Grenadiers!

As soon as I saw these perry Prussians something stirred inside me and I just knew that I had to paint some!
Hopefully I will remain motivated and paint 3 more battalions so I can field a small brigade...

Figures are all Plastic Perry. Flag is GMB designs.

Hope you like them!

First (and hopefuly last) finished British Foot battalion

Well it is done!
My first and hopefully last ( since I can not afford or bear yet another painting project) unit of speed-painted British is complete.

Overall I have to say that the army painter dip is a great product and it works wonders when you start with a light undercoat and limit yourself to a single or no-highlights.

figures are plastic perry and the flags are those that come with the box. I just gave them a coat of mat varnish since I could not stand the glossy paper

Hope you like them!

Something not so French...

Well I thought the day would never come but it has...

yes my dear friends, I have decided to paint my first british infantry unit. Although I never planned to paint any British, I had this box of Perry british in my "to be painted" list and since I was beginning to feel a bit tired after all those blue coats I decided to paint them

Instead of going for my usual 3 layer painting technique however, I decided to try my luck at "dipping" them since I wanted to speed paint them.

The results were quite good and I have to say that the army painter dip works really well with warm colours  like red and brown so it worked well for peninsular British. Perhaps it would look good for Russians or Austrians too but certainly not for the French and Prussians!

To make things easier for me I didnt glue the heads and back packs since I wanted to undercoat them black:

heads are stuck with blu-tack
The main bodies were spray coated white:

After blocking the main colours I just dipped the figures and when the dip was dry I gave them a coat of matt varnish (applied with a brush).

The results as you can see are quite good! It took me about two hours to paint and dip 6 figures!
I highly suggest this method to busy people who dont really have a lot of time to paint (thats you Rodney!)

almost there...only the flank companies left...

Hope you like them!
